Jacob Riis

Jacob Riis’s career was marked by two significant accomplishments. One was the use of the flash, and the second was the role he played as a muckraker. He worked to improve the living conditions of the impoverished in New York City by photographing the conditions that they lived in. He eventually became a police photographer in order to better capture the extremely poor quality of living that existed in the slums of New York.
