One thing that struck me about Keith Carter's love for photography was the point in his artistic development when he realized that even in black and white pictures, there exists a certain sense of color that can't be gotten rid of.
He originally took mainly documentary pictures, but as he began to photograph the mystical quality of the land around him, he started to recognize that it wasn't just about what is seen and his pictures began to evoke the viewer to imagine what's happening outside the border of the picture.
One thing that I'd take away from his photography is his ability to use blur in a photograph to make it more mysterious and cryptic. That's definitely something that I'd like to start utilizing in my own art.
