The collection of art that made Sally Mann to suddenly famous was named Immediate Family. It captured the essence of her children playing at a summer lake house. Though many of the pictures were of the happy moments of childhood such as playing in streams or sleeping, they included the darker moments as well. Many of her photographs depicted the injuries, nudity and loneliness that is typical of childhood, however many accused her of child pornography which is why her work is so controversial, even today.
